On April 2, 2019, 61.22% of Springfield Public Schools’ voters approved an 18-cent increase to the debt-service levy to fund 39 high-priority projects. The projects include renovations, expansion, and/or new construction for six schools and the creation of safer entrances at 31 schools. Space to add early childhood classrooms was created at three locations. The $167.73 million “Prop S” bond addresses safety, accessibility and quality issues.
Paragon Architecture has had the pleasure of working on several of the Prop S projects, including:
- Secure Entrances at Bingham, Rountree, and Robberson Elementary Schools — completed August 2019
- The design of the new state-of-the-art Adah Fulbright Early Childhood Center, in collaboration with Sapp Design Architects — completed August 2020
- Renovation and additions at Williams Elementary School, in collaboration with Sapp Design Architects — opening August 2021, and
- The addition of a tornado safe room gymnasium at Field Elementary School — scheduled to be completed before school starts up in the Fall of 2022
The students at Williams Elementary School will be welcomed “back-to-school” in a grand fashion this year, as construction of their new facility will conclude in time for the first day of school this fall. The extensive renovation and addition project at Williams included repurposing an existing library for a new Boys and Girls Club Center, the addition of a Pre-K hub that will serve as the on-site Early Childhood Center, a new gymnasium with integrated music classroom and stage that also serves the district as a tornado safe room during inclement weather, and everything in between! Enjoy this sneak peek of the progress of Williams Elementary School and another delivered promise to the Springfield community.
